Mati Elmaliach often works with images from family archives, and the sea is a recurring motif in his works – it represents for him a geographical space connected to the city of Safi, his father’s birthplace in Morocco, but also an emotional place of silence and repression. His works combine mixed techniques of photography and paper cutting.
