This work represents Vered Nachmani‘s final painting working with a grid. In this piece, Nachmani is captivated by the unique yellow color of the Israeli pomegranate tree’s autumn leaves in her yard, and explores themes of density/crowding, flatness and depth, emptiness and fullness, concealing and revealing. The filled part of the work appears complete but lacks air, contrasting with the empty upper section that glows in its completeness. The work simulates breathing spaces—two contradictory yet complementary processes. Nachmani combines abstraction and representation, creating a painting that is simultaneously dreamlike and photorealistic. She often creates from photographs, but even when using oil on canvas, she always maintains fidelity to the original image.
