A LEGACY

The inspiration for the carpet Kath designs and manufactures is taken from his world travels and the old industrial culture (coal mining and metal) of his home town – Bochum, Germany. Those roots created his design approach that is daring and defining a brand-new perspective in the world of carpets – combining classic elements of ancient oriental rugs with current minimal design or adding photo-realistic motifs to the textile arts. The design starts as a digital sketch and continues to be hand woven in the Himalia, India, or Atlas Mountains by small local family businesses. The materials he uses are Tibetan wool that is extremely strong, Chinese silk and thread that is made from the Nettle plant and creates a powerful gloss. Kath doesn’t compromise on the quality of his carpets and insists in manufacturing them in ancient, traditional techniques that along with the natural materials used creates a special character. Besides ongoing collections, the brand offers customized carpets by choice, size, and pattern. Kath carpets are award-winning, including the Red Dot award and are presented in museum collections around the world. There are many branches of the brand in Germany as well as in Vancouver and NYC.
