Ron Arad
Born in Israel in 1951, Arad is the most known Israeli designer when discussing post-modernist design style. He was born in Tel Aviv, studied in Bezalel design school (1971-1973) and continued to study at the Architectural Association in London, graduating in 1979. After completing his studied he established the Off One company with architect Caroline Truman and later in 1989 continued to open Ron Arad Associates. In 1994, Arad opened his studio in Italy. In the last few years he serves as the head of the department for industrial design in the Royal College in London, and in 2010 he received an honorary doctor degree from Tel Aviv University. His designs are well-known and successful, his works was exhibited in the world’s most prestige and important museums – the MET in NYC, the Pompidou center in Paris, the Vitra design museum in Germany, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and more. Plus, tens of leading brands such as Vitra, Morsso and cartel, produced his designs. For example: “Well tempered chair”, the “Book worm” shelf and the “Rover couch” produced using old car parts. While working as an industrial designer, Arad also practices architecture. The organic rounded shapes who characterized his buildings goes hand to hand with his line of product design, they all have unique shapes that stems from extensive research and experimentation in materials like metal, aluminum, plastic and more. Arad believes constant searching for interesting constructions is what kept him in the lead of the design and architecture world.
