RON GILAD
Born in Tel Aviv in 1972, a graduate of the industrial design class in Bezalel. After finishing his studies, he moved to NYC to continue his career in the company he founded. After 10 years in the Unites States he returned to Israel and since, he divides his time between Israel and Milan. His voice is unique, personal, and sophisticated on the border between functional to abstract with a touch of humor and a dimension of surprise and absurd. He researches dimensions, volume and proportions and plays with elements and shapes. He adds or subtracts elements to trivial objects from the everyday life. Optical illusions are repeating motifs in his work, a signature that provides new, fresh angles on things we know and current, expected items. He designed exhibit halls for installations and received a wide recognition for his work: He was named designer of the year by magazines such as WALLPAPER and Eldecor and his designs are part of super brands collections that includes Cassina, Flos and Molteni. Also, his works are part of exhibitions in MOMA NYC and the MET museums. He also created a personal exhibit in Periscope gallery in Tel Aviv, only a year after graduating but since went on to have personal exhibits in the Dilemaos gallery in Milan, Italy and an exhibit in Tel Aviv museum: “The logic, the ironic and the absurd”.
